JoAnn Bennett

June 25, 1948 — April 25, 2016

JoAnn, 67, of Broomfield, went home to be with the Lord on April 25, 2016. Her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior assured her of her eternal home. JoAnn was born on June 25, 1948 in Estes Park, Colorado to Donald and Dona Belle Kneifl. She graduated from Arvada High School and Adams State University. At the age of 21, she married her high school sweetheart, Steve Bennett, on August 30, 1969 at Community Baptist Church (Centerpoint Church) in Arvada, Colorado. She and Steve finished their final year at Adams State University and settled in Broomfield, Colorado several years later. It was during this time that JoAnn was a stay-at-home mom to their two children, Stephanie Bennett (Christen) and Brian Bennett. She loved being a stay-at-home mom as she refined the art of maintaining her home and raising her children. She raised her children to love the Lord through her example and passion to serve Christ. She and Steve served Christ together as they loved people and ministered to them. Their ministry started at Fellowship Bible Chapel, continuing on to Centerpoint Church and Flatirons Community Church. In August of 1988, she returned to a career in education, getting her Master's degree. She taught 5th and 6th grade classes at Sheridan Green Elementary and finished her career as a Reading Specialist at North Arvada Middle School, retiring in 2013. She had such a great heart for teaching kids! Life continued moving forward and JoAnn became a grandma in 2003. As much as JoAnn loved being a mom, JoAnn would often say being a grandma was the best! She adored Kayla (12) and Luke (9) and being with them as much as possible. Through the years, you would always find JoAnn caring and loving others in everything she did. She found such joy in spending time with those she loved. She was intentional – always seizing the moment – never wasting time on things that didn't matter. She enjoyed sewing, decorating, cooking, entertaining, being active, golfing, watching sports, going to the theatre, and travelling. In 2014, she was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. This led to the hardest fight of her life. She handled this fight with such grace, never complaining, and trusting the Lord for her journey. Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, JoAnn is survived by her husband, Steve; children, Stephanie (Dan) Christen and Brian (Desmonne) Bennett; grandchildren, who called her ""Dash"", Kayla and Luke Christen; mother, Dona Belle Kneifl; brother, Jim (LaDa) Kneifl; brothers in law, Dave (Cindy) Bennett and Dan (Veronica) Bennett; sister in law, Lena Bennett; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Kneifl; brother, Don Kneifl; sister in law, Patty Bennett; and brother in law, Mel Bennett. The family will receive friends during visitation on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM, at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue, in Arvada, Colorado 80003.
