Mary Springer

February 24, 1944 — November 30, 2016

Mary Ellen Bergkamp was born on February 24, 1944, in Garden City, Kansas, to Oscar & Virginia (Downie) Bergkamp. Mary was raised in the Garden City area and graduated from Garden City High School and Garden City Junior College. After graduation, prior to her marriage, Mary started as a teller at Fidelity State Bank, her grandfather, Robert N. Downie's bank, in Garden City. On June 13, 1966, she married Paul M. Springer, in Garden City, after dating for a couple of years. Mary and Paul began their family and lived a short time in Manhattan, Kansas, before moving to Colorado in 1970. Their family settled in Westminster, Colorado and Mary began working for Colorado Federal Savings, where she remained in the banking industry over 40 years, retiring as a bank manager. Their family became parishioners at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where their children attended school. Mary was a devout Catholic and dedicated time at church, where she served as part of Parish Council, Church Choir, Eucharistic Minister, and was a founding participant of Fun Fest, the church's annual fundraiser. In her spare time, Mary was a true Denver sports fanatic – cheering on the Broncos, Rockies, CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves, where her grandson, Zach participates in football. Mary loved her family and was a devoted grandmother, always attending, never missing a game or recital. Mary's nieces and nephews adored her as a ""favorite aunt"" – she was an irresistible target for humor and her fun-loving personality lended itself well to the environment of family gatherings and holidays. Mary created special bonds with many friends, who respected and loved her dearly. Her presence will be missed and create many voids. Mary is survived by her husband of 50 years, Paul; daughter, Marsha (Bouie) Boyd; grandchildren, Zachary Boyd and Kyla Boyd; siblings, Alyce Ann Woroniak, Robert Bergkamp, Thomas Bergkamp, Elodie Faulkner, William Bergkamp, and John Bergkamp; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her children, Nancy Bolden and Michael Springer; granddaughter, Hannah Williamson; and brother, Michael Bergkamp. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2016, from 3-7 PM, with Recitation of the Rosary beginning at 7 PM, both at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue, in Arvada, Colorado 80003. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 9, 2016, at 10 AM, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3050 West 76th Avenue, in Westminster, Colorado 80030. A private family Committal Service will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, Colorado 80235 at a future date.
