Mattie Turner

September 22, 1929 — July 13, 2016

Mattie entered into her eternal rest on July 13, 2016 when she peacefully and quietly went home to be with the Lord. She was born in La Grange, Tennessee and spent the majority of her adult life in Chicago, Illinois. She returned to Memphis in 1996 and moved to Colorado to be with her children in 2003. She was the mother of eight children; Larry, Barbara, Philip, Junious, Deborah, Melvin, Bernard, and Parnell, whom she raised in Chicago. She worked at Leaf Brands Confectionary in Chicago for 30 years. Mattie was nine years old when she confessed her belief in Jesus Christ and was baptized. She raised her children to believe in Christ and to actively work in the church. Mattie was an ordained Deaconess in the Baptist church and she served in various positions in the church including the choir, usher board, and mothers board. She was very creative in thinking up programs to help raise money and did all she could to share the gospel and magnify the name of Jesus. Mattie loved cooking and sharing meals with those she loved. Her specialties included mixed greens, cornbread dressing, and sweet potato pie. Her memory will be cherished by her family and friends and her departure from this life has left a hole in our hearts! Mattie, we love and miss you and know because of our faith in Christ, we will see you again on the other side.
