Bernie Peters passed away on the evening of May 12, 2019 with his family at his bedside.  For the last eleven months Bernie has been a resident of an assisted living facility, along with his wife Marilyn.  Bernie was 88 years, 7 months and 3 days old.  He was born October 9, 1930 to O F and Mary Peters in Beatrice NE.  He grew up and started his schooling in the areas of Odell and Harbine.  He graduated the 10th grade from Harbine’s Public School.  He then transferred to Fairbury High School and graduated in 1949.

Bernie worked constructing steel storage bins until December of 1950, when he enlisted into the US Air Force.  He took his basic training at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls TX.  He was then assigned to Hamilton Air Force Base in San Rafael, CA.

On March 26,1951 he married Marilyn Jones.  Then in September of that same year he was transferred to Larson Air Force Base in Washington State.  In June of 1952, he received orders to Kimpo Air Force Base in South Korea.  He returned home in July of 1953 and was transferred to Biggs Air Force Base in El Paso TX.  In December of 1954 he was honorably discharged and returned with his family to Fairbury NE where he enrolled into Fairbury Junior College.

In September of 1955 he moved his family to Denver CO where he completed his degree in Business Administration at Regis University.  He was employed by Continental Baking Company until his retirement in 1990.

Bernie and his wife Marilyn of 68 years gave birth to Michael (Becki), Mark, Brenda (Tom), Paula (Steve), Peggy (Jerry) and David (Sheryl).  He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 3 brothers, and 1 grandson.  He is survived by his wife Marilyn;his children Michael, Mark, Brenda, Paula, Peggy and David; 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, his brother Leo, and numerous nieces and nephews; and many other loving family members and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 20th at 11AM at Spirit of Christ Catholic Church 7400 W. 80th Ave. Arvada CO 80003.

Bernie will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery.

  7. It was such a pleasure to work for Bernie at Wonder Bread Hostess Cakes from 1984-1987. He was a great boss and a great mentor leading me to my Bakery Controller position to Portland OR. He always gave me advice when I needed it. Blessings go to Marilyn and his family. What a gentle soul. Rest In Peace Bernie.
