Al Strand passed away peacefully at the age of 96 in Highlands Ranch, CO. He spent his final weeks with the love of his life and wife of 66 years, Louise, and his son and daughter were with him at the end.
Al, a proud WWII veteran, graduate of Colorado College and 34-year GM employee, was a sociable guy. His natural joy and optimism were contagious; he would make everyone feel better just by being around him. His family meant everything to him. He extended his commute time by hours so his family wouldn’t have to move. He loved our vacations and drove us across the country, camping and hiking in national parks and visiting family and historic sites. He sang for us kids as we drove, and when we begged, “Sing it AGAIN, Dad!” he did until he was too hoarse to continue. He was a beloved sibling and uncle, and his in-laws adored him.
Al was a great organizer, co-founding the “Golf Buddies” group, serving as president of the local GM Retirees group and coordinator of his neighborhood Memorial Day Brunch. In retirement, he spent many years skiing, golfing and playing tennis as well as continuing camping and other travel vacations with Louise. He enjoyed activities and dining with friends at Wind Crest. His enthusiasm for learning never waned, and he avidly watched the nightly news and educational DVDs. Al was known and loved by all for his unfailingly positive nature, his hearty laugh and infectious smile, and his generosity and kindness.
Al is survived by his wife Louise, son John (Mary), daughter Laura (David), grandchildren Eric (Mollie), Stefanie, Genevieve, Michelle and Shannon, and great-grandson Adam. Services at Risen Christ Catholic Parish Sept. 23rd at 2pm with reception following, and interment at Fort Logan cemetery Sept. 24th at 1pm.
