Alice E. Hanson, 94, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021 in Englewood, Colorado. She was born in San Diego, California on April 26, 1927 to James Crum and Rose L. Crum. She graduated from Grossmont High School in 1945 and attended San Diego State University for a short time. Alice met the love of her life, Fredrick Hanson, at a Military dance in 1944. Fred and Alice were married on December 8, 1945. Fred and Alice then moved to Washington D.C.. and had their first of five children, Carl. Eventually they would move back to Colorado where daughter Sharon, and sons Steve, Bruce and Brian were born. While Alice was busy raising her children, she found time to do volunteer work and be active in both the PTA and her church. She was a member of the Duet’s of Westminster, Colorado. Alice loved cooking, baking Swedish Peppar Kakor cookies, fruitcake and having all her family together so that she could use her best China. Her hobbies also included sewing, knitting and collecting small pitchers from around the world.
After her husband Fred’s retirement from Oneida Elementary School, which later became Fredrick R. Hanson Elementary School in Commerce City Colorado, Fred and Alice enjoyed traveling to Europe and Sweden, going on cruises and bus trips around the United States. They also enjoyed visiting their second home in Silver Cliff, Colorado at the base of the San De Cristo Mountains. Fred and Alice were married for 71 years. She was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Westminster, Colorado.
Alice is preceded in death by husband, Fredrick Hanson. Alice is survived by her son Carl Hanson and daughter-in-law Mary Ellen Hanson, daughter Sharon Wahrle, son Steve Hanson and daughter-in-law Betty Hanson, son Bruce Hanson and daughter-in-law Aeryn Hanson and son Brian Hanson and daughter-in-law Sandy Hanson.
She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and spouses: Steven Wahrle, Dr. Suzanne (Rudi) Schindler, Orion Hanson, Annie (Jon) Patton, Betsy (Chris) Grimsley, Dr. James (Crystal) Hanson, Daniel (Ana) Hanson, and Erik Hanson. She was blessed with with twelve great-grandchildren: Bella, Lillie and Rhett Patton, Abbie and Maggie Grimsley, Alex, Julia and Lucas Hanson, Laura and Thomas Hanson, and Jacob and Caleb Kardjaja.
Alice was able to visit with almost all of her great-grandchildren this past July at a family reunion and over 45 people came to visit her at her Assisted Living residence. At the time of her death, Alice was residing at the Arbors of San Marino in Westminster. She was lucky to spend the last two months with her best friends, Ann and Shirley, who also reside there. Alice was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held Sunday, October 10, 2021 from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm followed by the Funeral Service at 1:00 pm at Advent Lutheran Church, 7979 Meade St, Westminster. Graveside Service will be held Monday, October 11, 2021 at 9:00 am at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Advent Lutheran Church.
