Charles Rovetta

On Saturday, May 14, 2016, Charles A Rovetta died peacefully in hospice after a brave battle against cancer. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Methodist Church, 8817 South Broadway, Highlands Ranch, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Martin's Chamber choir, whom Chip supported as a board member. Rovetta, Jr, born March 29, 1941 in Chicago, IL, came home from the hospital to Judson Burton dormitory, University of Chicago, the youngest ever resident, because his parents, Charles, Sr and Mary Rovetta were dorm parents. His father, a professor in the School of Business rose to Assistant Dean before moving to Tallahassee, Florida where he became Dean of the Florida State University School of Business. Chip travelled to Boulder, Colorado every summer, where his mother's family, had built one of the first cottages at the Colorado Chautauqua. There he acquired a taste for Colorado as did his many Texas cousins. The 1953 move to Tallahassee where he cultivated Southern manners and graduated from Leon High School and then Florida State University with a degree in accounting. He married Joycelyn Ward Rovetta, as well, in 1964. He went to work for IBM back when programs were wired by hand on a metal grid and was in on the introduction of the System/360, the new age of computers. In 1972 He joined Ross Perot's Electronic Data Systems and moved with his family Mary Angela ""Angie"" then seven and Brian Charles Rovetta then three to Atlanta, Georgia. The family became founding members of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church there. In 1977, he moved with his family to help open one he EDS's first international accounts, to Tehran, Iran working with Iranian banks and state health insurance programs. On their first home leave, they circumnavigated the globe West all the way from Tehran with stops in Atlanta, Boulder and points west back to Tehran. In December 1978, they were evacuated from Tehran because of the revolution and because EDS executives had been jailed, as told in Ken Follet's ""On Wings of Eagles"". A return to Atlanta was followed by another overseas offer to in London, England. During those years, Angie and Brian graduated from American Community School and then Florida State University Joyce began teaching at ACS, world history to students from all over the world. They were again founding members of an International Community Church for expatriates of many denominations. Chip and Joyce came back to the States in 1993, still with EDS, to Denver, Colorado into a home in Highlands Ranch. Chip's love of the mountains, the Chautauqua and railroads, filled his spare time until he retired in 1999 and took a retirement job at Caboose Hobbies. Joyce went to work at the Douglas County Libraries for 13 years before retiring. Their move to Wind Crest retirement community in 2014 was well timed and they have enjoyed the smaller responsibilities and greater services available.
