Dan Martin

January 19, 1933 — December 20, 2020

Dan Martin, Age 87 passed away on Dec 20, 2020 after a two-week battle with COVID 19 at the Littleton Adventist Hospital in Littleton, Colorado.

Dan was born January 19, 1933 in Kersery, Colorado. He was the tenth of eleven children to Fred Martin and Elizabeth Woit.

Dan was a fun loving, outgoing, funny individual who graduated from Fort Morgan High School in Fort Morgan, Colorado in 1952. He originally considered becoming an entertainer, but that dream quickly faded and he then joined the Navy on June 30, 1952 serving four years on four different aircraft carriers as an attack Squadron Plane Mechanic. Dan earned five service medals during his service in the Navy. He was Honorably discharged from the Navy on June 29, 1956.

Upon Dan’s return to civilian life, he immediately went to work in the Oil and Gas industry. He started his career with Republic Supply Company in Ft. Morgan, Colorado as a stock and field supply representative. Dan’s determination, enthusiasm, as well as a lot of hard work and many family relocations helped him quickly moved up the ladder, he was promoted to Vice President of Sales for Norville Wilder Supply Company. As Dan’s career was winding down he transitioned into the role of an Independent Sales Representative for several different pipe sales companies. With this new role as a semi-retired salesman Dan continued selling at his own pace, until he finally decided to shut it all down and fully retire at the young age of 80.

Dan was not all work, he did enjoy sports and playing cards with his good friends. He especially enjoyed playing golf well into his 70’s. He was a life long member of Columbine Country Club which appealed to his love of the outdoors, playing golf, playing cards and even sometimes placing a friendly wager with his close friends.

Dan also enjoyed being a family man. Dan married Phyllis June Geist on October 19, 1957. They welcomed their first son, Bradley Daniel Martin a year later on October 15, 1958. Their second son Michael Brent Martin arrived on February 9, 1960. One thing was clear early on Dan was born to be a father, he was really good at it. He was very invested in the growth and development of his two boys. He coached them in baseball, football and taught them how to play golf. When they were not playing sports, he was very good a teaching and leading them through many of life lessons. Dan really loved transitioning from his own children to those wonderful grandchildren. He was especially fond of babies, he was often accused of being a baby hog. As those Grandchildren grew Dan loved watching them participate in school activities and numerous sporting events. Eventually those Grandchildren became parents and Dan could not be happier. He was once again back to enjoying the little ones all the way up to his passing.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife Phyllis Martin (of 63 years), Bradley Martin his wife Ginger and their four boys; Bradley Jay Martin and his wife Kelly, Daniel Robert Martin, Thomas Michael Martin his wife Margaret, and Bryan Boone Martin: Michael Martin and his two children Sydney Lynne Martin, Jared Douglas Martin, and three great grandchildren Jaelyn Patricia Martin, Sophia Burch Martin, and Jude Robert Martin, as well as many nephews and nieces.
