Ellen Gartland

Ellen, a lifelong Denver resident, passed gently into the arms of God on April 18, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Barbara Gartland and her sister, Mary Jane Moon.

She is survived by seven brothers. Patrick, Michael, Kevin, Tim, Dennis, and Matt of Denver, and Jim, of Abilene, Kansas.  She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who knew and loved her.

Ellen was born on March 31, 1955, the daughter of Ed and Barbara Gartland.

Two years later, she suffered the fever which changed her life forever.

As a developmentally disabled child and adult, Ellen had a special joy for life and a wonderful sense of humor that was enjoyed by all who were privileged to know her.

She especially enjoyed her activities at Hope Center where she attended from age six until just prior to her death and with her friends and the volunteers at the Saturday Challengers program through Denver Adaptive Recreation.

She loved talking with her brothers and their children and hearing of the exploits of her nieces and nephews and of the arrival of each new grandniece or nephew.

She was literally the glue that bound our family together.  Her life was full of mishaps and challenges, including a serious bout with cancer, but Ellen always seemed to triumph.  She will be greatly missed by all of us.

Services will be at Christ the King Catholic Church on May 4, 2021, at 11:00 a.m.

Private interment later at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
