John (Jack) Callander passed away at the age of 78 on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Alta Vita Memory Care Centre in Longmont, CO, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born in Troy, New York, Jack received his Bachelor of Science and Masters of Photogrammetry degrees from Syracuse University. He began his career in 1966 at Rome Air Development Center in Rome, NY, as a civilian employee of the Air Force and moved to the Defense Mapping Agency in Washington, D.C., in 1978. After twenty years with the federal government, Jack continued his career in the private sector.

Married to Enid Whipple Callander in 1966, they first lived in Oneida, NY, and moved to Burke, Virginia, in 1978. Jack and Enid enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake Bay during these years. They built their timber frame “retirement dream house” and woodworking shop in Markham, VA, in the Shenandoah Valley upon Jack’s retirement in 2001. There Jack made furniture for friends and family. As a member of Leeds Episcopal Church, he served as Junior Warden overseeing the refurbishing of the church, participated in mission trips to Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, and took part in building a Habitat for Humanity house. In 2013, they moved to Broomfield, Colorado, to be near their son and family.

Jack is survived by Enid, his wife of 54 years; son and daughter-in-law Steven and Juliet Callander, of Erie, CO; two granddaughters, Ellison Callander of Erie and Jessica Catalucci, of Manassas, VA; five brothers, Leonard Callander (Ruth), Peter Callander (Kathy), Allan Callander (Sheila), Lawrence Callander (Peggy), James Callander (Ann Marie); brother-in-law William Martle of Carthage, NY; 4 nieces, 5 nephews, and 2 great-nieces. He was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Sharon Catalucci, in 2019

A memorial service for Jack will be held at a later date with inurnment of ashes at Leeds Episcopal Cemetery in Markham, Virginia. Jack’s family asks that all who wish to share condolences and memories do so at on the tribute page of Jack's obituary.
