Jack Thornburg

Jack Thornburg passed away on December 8, 2017 in Denver, CO. Born on February 8, 1923 in Akron, IA, the son of Lee Thornburg and Lucy Dula. He grew up in the community of Ida Grove, Iowa and served in the Army from 1942 to 1945. Jack resided in Ida Grove and Sioux City, Iowa and settled in Denver in 1951. Jack met his wife, Phyllis, while on vacation in Detroit Lakes in the spring of 1950, and they were married that fall. They celebrated 64 years of marriage in 2014. Jack worked as a successful Food Broker for many years until retiring in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion and active member with the local Denver Democratic Party. Jack led a healthy life swimming at the local gym until he was 93 years old. His warm personality and great sense of humor was cherished by the friends he made along the way. He will be sorely missed. Jack is survived by daughter Valerie Spiess (Robert); son Glenn Thornburg and grandchildren Chris, Madeline, and Griffin. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis and son Mark. Services will be held at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 1091 South Colorado Blvd. at 2:00 PM on Friday December 15th. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a gathering after the memorial. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Jack to the local America Legion.
