Life and Times of Jerry Dunn

Jerry grew up in Long Beach, CA where he attended elementary and junior high, and after several happy years at St. Anthony High, he went off to Stanford on a football scholarship, pledged Delta Tau Delta and graduated in 1957. Then, being a glutton for punishment (or for the beer on spring afternoons at Rossotti’s ), he stayed on for one more year and left Stanford with a Master of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering. After that came the required (at that time) tour of duty as a company commander in the army corps of engineers at Ft. Ord in California. There he spent mornings searching out gravel deposits, and the rest of the day on the beach. Very tough duty for a young bachelor!

After his discharge, he took a job with ARCO and spent his days on a drilling rig in the middle of Lake Maracaibo Venezuela for 2 years. He did not learn to speak Spanish (which he later deeply regretted). He did learn to smoke cigars hand rolled on the thighs of virgins - or, so they told him (He was young. What did he know?)

He was transferred to ARCO's Denver office and worked there while completing his law degree at University of Denver in 1964. He began a solo law practice until he and Mike Burg started a firm. He did a little land developing on the side in an unknown, upstart wannabe ski resort called Vail in Colorado. Did OK. He eventually became a land developer doing a little law on the side. Did OK. Never really retired. Finally changed his job description to World Traveler doing a little law on the side.

He met his self-described ""girl of his dreams,"" Charleen, on a blind date in 1966 and proposed on their second date. The happy couple settled in Cherry Hills and went on to produce four children: Stephanie, Bryan, Casey and Corey, of whom he was extremely proud. (Just ask anyone who inquired, ""So, how are your kids?"" An hour later they had their answer.) Those children gifted him with 5 grandchildren: Kendall, Casen, Connor, Ryan and Finley, whom he loved with every fiber of his being.

Jerry spent a lot of his time on community activities, serving on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Mental Health Association (now known as Mental Health Colorado) for 10 years before retiring to the Honorary Board. He was also a member of Cherry Hills Country Club, Risen Christ Church, Knights of Columbus and the Denver Law Club.

Jerry Dunn was a big, warm, funny, generous man, loved and respected by those who were lucky enough to know him. To say he will be missed is a colossal understatement.
