John Haney, 68, of Denver passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood.
John was born December 25 1953 to Thomas and Mary Jane Haney. John was a proud member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed in Munich, Germany. After his service John would join the ranks of his brothers and become a life long police officer. He spent 10-years with the Thornton Police Department and over 20-years with the Denver Police Department, where he would retire as a detective in 2018.
On top of his legacy as a police officer, John was an active member in the North Denver community. John owned Haney’s Coffee Shop (since closed) for 12-years and ran for Denver City Council in 2010. John was a North Denver native and had a deep love for his community and neighbors.
John is survived by his seven children, Sean, Shannon, Shela, Shelby, Shea, Patrick and Vincent, as well as 19 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and 10 brothers and sisters, who he loved very much.
A Viewing will be held for John, Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Horan and McConaty, 3020 Federal Blvd, from 4-6 p.m. followed by a Rosary from 6-7 p.m. Services will be Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Saint Dominic’s Church, 2905 Federal Blvd. Visitation will start at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 11 a.m.. A Burial Service will be held at Fort Logan Cemetery, 4400 W Kenyon Ave, at 1:30 p.m. A Reception will follow at All Saints School, 2559 South Federal Blvd., Denver, CO 80219.
