John E. Mulligan entered eternal life peacefully, surrounded by his family, March 15, 2023 at the age of 76. He is survived by his loving wife Leta Katherine Mulligan of 56 years, Highlands Ranch; two daughters: Leta V. Mulligan, Highlands Ranch; Amy Marie Wall (David) Littleton; five grandchildren: Blake Patrick Cassidy, Dallas, Texas; Mark Patrick Cassidy, Denver; Jack Patrick Cassidy, Denver; Alexa Chandler Wall (Jeff Gius), Aurora; Paige McKenzie Wall, Littleton.
John was born in Denver, August 18, 1946. He grew up in Denver and attended St. Francis de Sales for Grade School and High School where he met his future wife Leta at the age of 14. In 1964, he graduated high school earning a football scholarship to the University of Northern Colorado. After one year, he decided college life was not his path, and joined the U S Marine Corps. He proudly served his country in Vietnam in 1966 & 1967. Two months after John returned home from Vietnam, he married the love of his life, Leta on November 25, 1967. In 1968, he realized his lifelong dream to become a Denver Police officer, where he served until 1990 and retired as Lieutenant. He and his wife Leta were also successful business owners in Colorado and Nevada until they retired together in 2003 to enjoy their grandchildren, friends, and many travels. John lived his life to its fullest all the way up to the very end; serving God, loving his family and his country. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Services will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023; Rosary 10:15am, Mass 11:00am St. Thomas More Catholic Church 8035 S. Quebec St. Englewood, CO 80112 Committal with military honors to follow immediately at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 1:30pm. Celebration of Life at 2:30pm at Denver Chop House.
