Jose Lascano

José Stanley Lascano died peacefully and without pain at home after keeping pancreatic cancer at bay for almost 6 years. He passed on July 14th, 2021, at the age of 77.

Born in Denver, Colorado, José grew up in Pueblo, Colorado, and graduated from Pueblo Central High in 1961. After graduation, José enlisted in the US Army and served 6 years in Orleans, France, as a Fuel and Electrical Systems Rep and earned decorations in sharpshooting. Upon his discharge, he returned to Pueblo and earned his AA in computer technology and programming from Colorado State University Pueblo, while performing in a band that toured Colorado and nearby states. His musical talents were broad ranging from trumpet to trombone, guitar and vocals.

In the early 1970s, José moved to Denver and worked in computer programming and analysis until he passed. He loved working and being part of a team. He excelled at creating a respectful workplace. He learned people’s interests and used them to engage each person. He drew parallels to the work they were doing creating a deeper understanding of the material for everyone. He was an expert in diffusing tension with his jovial nature and his ability to see humor and irony in his surroundings. His natural curiosity and enthusiasm for learning was infectious and one of his closest friends said it best: “Life was more exciting when I was with him”.

José woke up every day in a good mood endorsing positivity as the best way to make it through the day. There are so many things in life that are out of our control but he taught us to take charge of our happiness and to be present. He followed his own advice by finding ways to get everyone to find enjoyment in his wide range of interests (snooker, Denver Broncos, shooting, technology and music) and engaging with them to his maximum ability.

He would consider his family as his greatest accomplishment, and he was fiercely proud of them. In is quest for knowledge and connection, he would thoroughly research everyone’s passions and present his findings with teachable aids that would reach from his grandchildren to his contemporaries. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Becky Lascano, his daughters and their children: Darcy Simon [Caleb Simon], Jayden and Isla, and Alysha Messmer [Mike Messmer], Maxine, Ole and Montgomery.

A Graveside Service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Friday, September 10th at 10:15AM with a reception to follow.
