Joseph Bernard Horrigan, age 90, died peacefully at home on December 21, 2020. Born to Edward Francis and Evelyn Loretta (Lynch) Horrigan January 9, 1930, in Imogene, Iowa, he and the Horrigan clan moved to Denver in 1937. Joe graduated from St Francis High School and began working in the retail lumber industry as warehouseman, driver, and eventual manager. He served in the US Army, February 1951 to February 1953, in various US sites as a weapons trainer, honorably discharged. He returned to the retail lumber industry until his retirement in 1992.
Through mutual friends, he met his beloved wife, Bernadine Ann Boland, and married in Elkader, Iowa May 12, 1956. A devoted Catholic family life of school and youth sporting events with their five children made for a full life with their friends and local family. Known for hospitality, the Horrigan home was a place of frequent planned and unplanned gatherings of neighbors, family, friends, schoolmates and friends-not-yet-made, with plenty of food and libations.
Survivors include Bernadine and children Tim and wife Diane, mother of Joseph, Katie, Annie, and Maggie, Pat and Terri, mother of Ashley and Jade, Teresa and husband David Vieira, Peggy and husband Brian Ries, father of Nicholas, and Tom and Hilary, mother of Tabor, TJ and Ty. Seven great grandchildren (Kaylee, Hunter, Stella, Joey, Evelyn, Raelyn, and Marley) and numerous Boland/Horrigan nieces and nephews added to their joy.
Proceeded in death by his parents, and his siblings Rita, Grace, Frank, Loretta, Jerry, Tom, Msgr. Leo .
Visitation will be Sunday, January 24, 2021, from 3-5 pm at Horan-McConaty, 1091 South Colorado Blvd., Denver. Funeral Mass will be at Church of the Risen Christ, 3060 So. Monaco Parkway, on Monday, January 25, 2021, at 10 am. Due to pandemic restrictions, masks are required. Private burial will be at Fort Logan, closed to the public.
