Kathy Warfield Evans passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, October 19, 2020. Born Kathy Lynn Warfield in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 18, 1955, she lived in many locations throughout the United States during her childhood, including New Jersey, Illinois, California and Colorado. She completed high school in 1974 at Arapahoe High School and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Iowa State University in 1977 and immediately went to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Here she started her career in telecommunications with Mountain Bell. Advancements in her career brought her to the Denver area. She was married in 1985. Kathy is survived by her two children, Jeremy Evans, and Julia Mahoney, her father Robert Warfield, her sister Debbie Whitford, and husband David Evans.
Kathy’s greatest joy in life was raising her two children. She took great interest in their home country of India and made sure they went to India Heritage Camp every summer throughout their childhood. Kathy loved the camp and served it in many roles. When Jeremy and Julia were teenagers, the family traveled to India with friends from the camp. Kathy enjoyed the trip immensely and relished the challenges of traveling in a wheelchair. Highlights of the trip included reaching the plaza of the Taj Mahal, riding an elephant, ascending to the top of the Amber Fort and visiting the orphanages where her children were born.
Kathy loved aquatics; she loved romping in ocean surf, snorkeling and water aerobics. Even when her mobility was severely limited, she found ways to be in the water, swimming and water skiing with help of the King Adult Day Enrichment Program (KADEP). She celebrated every aspect of her life, including her power chair, which she decorated at each season. Holidays at home were always celebrated by Kathy with exuberance and lots of decorations.
