Kevin Michael Wyatt was born on March 14, 1964, in Norfolk, Virginia to John Wyatt Jr and Patricia A. Wyatt. Both have preceded him in death. Kevin was educated in the Kansas City Parochial School System which included Rockhurst High School where his athletic abilities were molded and led to an athletic scholarship at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. There he met the “Love of His Life”, Carla Watson, and they have been inseparable for over thirty-five years. This union has created a legacy of six beautiful children and seven adoring grandchildren.
After attending the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville on a football scholarship and playing for Lou Holtz, Kevin was drafted to the NFL by the Miami Dolphins and also played for the San Diego Chargers. Following his NFL career, Kevin was led to Christ on October 20, 1988, by Pastor Dwight E. Scott in Kansas City, MO. As a member of Bannister Road Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO, he served faithfully for many years as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, youth minister, choir member, and soul winner. During this time he was called to preach and attended and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Tri-City Baptist Bible College in Blue Springs, MO. He was employed during this time with Twentieth Century Investments. In the summer of 1998, Kevin left his job and home at Bannister Road Baptist Church and moved with his family to Denver, CO to start Living Baptist Church, which he pastored for over 20 years. During this time he also traveled frequently to many locations within the country to preach the gospel, leading many to the Lord. His love for and dedication to the Lord and his church family allowed him to lead the small yet faithful church body that he was called to.
As a father, Kevin lived a daily life that was an example of service to the Lord. He set the tone within his household with Joshua 24:15, “...as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”. He sacrificed much to provide for and protect his wife and six children every day of his life. His dedication to the Lord served as a model for his family and others of what service to the Lord, first and foremost, embodies. He loved Jesus, his family, golf, and investing.
Kevin was called home with the Lord on December 28, 2020.
Kevin leaves to mourn his loss, yet celebrate his life:
