Lawrence “Larry” Michael Mayers Sr, 86, died peacefully at Littleton Adventist Hospital on Sunday, August 15th, 2021. The cause of death was general illness complicated by Alzheimer’s disease.
Born April 17th, 1935, in New Jersey, Larry grew up in Mamaroneck, NY, graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School, White Plains, NY, graduated with a major in business and marketing in 1956 from College of the Holy Cross in Worchester, Massachusetts where he joined Navy ROTC. Marrying Mary Virginia “Ginny” Dunne in 1957, they then began their trek west through New Jersey, Pennsylvania, then Ohio, and settling in Colorado in 1967. Larry was self-employed as a consultant in Colorado for 54 years where he spent his life loving the outdoors and golf.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Alice Mayers of Stamford, CT and 2 sisters Mary Alice Mayers Young and Marjorie Mayers Wolf. Survived by his loving wife Ginny, 3 sons Lawrence Michael “Mike” Mayers Jr. and wife Jo of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Gregory “Greg” John Mayers and wife Lisa of Littleton, CO, Edward “Ned” Regan Mayers and wife Colette of Grand Junction, CO, 6 siblings, Thomas Mayers and wife Ann, Paul Mayers and wife Mary, Ruth Schofield and husband Bart, Eileen Zebroski and husband Leon (deceased), Rosemary Collyer and husband Phil, Brenda Danielson and husband Larry (deceased), 5 grandchildren Lawrence Michael “Mike” Mayers III and wife Leslee, Maria Chastka and husband David, Margaret Bernard and husband Chris, Annika Mayers and Nathanial Mayers, 4.5 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Frances Cabrini on Thursday, August 26th 2021, at 1:30pm. Internment service with military honors will follow at Ft. Logan Cemetery, at 3:15pm.
We are very thankful for the excellent nurses and staff at Littleton Adventist Hospital and Porter Hospice, all who made him feel loved and comfortable in his last days.
