Margaret Mayes

Margaret “Margie” Mayes, July 7, 1942 – July 1, 2022. Denver, CO

Margie worked as a Denver Police Officer for 31 years. She began her career as a police officer in 1969, when there were few women in law enforcement. Until the last few years of her life, she was an active member of Spirit of Christ Catholic Community where she was a core member of their Outreach Group, was nominated to the Pastoral Council, served on the Finance Committee, helped organize the annual Christmastime Reverse Collection, and hosted a Small Church Group of ladies who studied the Bible and the role they could play in stewardship. This group became “The Church Ladies,” and grew from a Church Group into a circle of close friends. Margie also served on the Citizens Review Board for the Rocky Mountain Law Enforcement Federal Credit Union.

Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur “Bill” Mayes, her parents, Andrew and Margaret Minzak, her brother Edward Minzak and sister-in-law Jean “Rocky” Minzak, and brother-in-law John Oros. Margie is survived by her only daughter, Shannon Mayes, of Arvada CO, her sisters Cathy Oros of Annapolis, MD, Gina Falick (Tim), of Hanover MD, her brothers A. John “Johnny” Minzak, of Columbia MD, Tom (Deb) Minzak of Belton TX, sister-in-law Linda Minzak of Broomfield CO, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Shannon and Linda will be hosting a Celebration of Life/Open House on Friday, July 15th from 3-7pm at 4141 Rabbit Mountain Road in Broomfield.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 25th at 11am at Horan & McConaty, 7577 W. 80th Ave, Arvada CO 80003.
