MARILYN THEODORA TUBB

October 9, 1925—May 30, 2022

Marilyn Theodora (Teddy) Matthews Tubb, age 96, was born in Victoria, Texas on October 9,1925 to Anna Dea Haile Matthews and John Hubert Matthews, and passed peacefully in Highlands Ranch, Colorado on May 30, 2022.

Teddy graduated from Buda (Texas) High School in 1943 and moved to Austin to attend Nixon-Clay Commercial College. She later worked at the Austin Hotel in Austin as the hotel manager’s secretary.

Teddy met her future husband, George Gilbert (Gib) Tubb, in 1947 on a blind date. At first, she did not want to meet him, because his nickname at the time was “Tubby”. But she and Gib eventually met at their friends’ home for dinner and then dated less than a year before becoming engaged. Gib, a geology graduate student at the University of Texas, took a job in Lake Charles, Louisiana in February 1948 and they were married in Austin in June 1948.

Daughter Marilyn was born in Lake Charles. Over the years, as Gib worked for Mobil Oil Company, Teddy and Gib moved to Oklahoma City (where Sharon and Fred were born), then Houston, Corpus Christi, back to Houston and finally Dallas.

During those years, summer camping trips to Colorado and Montana were family highlights, as was beach camping on Padre Island, hunting for Spanish coins and seashells.

Teddy’s greatest joy in life was being a dedicated mother and loving wife. Through many moves, she always made a house a home with warmth, love and a home-cooked meal. Teddy was also an avid bridge player and was involved in a bridge club nearly everywhere she lived.

After Gib’s retirement from Mobil in 1982, Gib and Teddy bought a home in Centennial, Colorado and also built a weekend cabin outside Breckenridge, Colorado, where they enjoyed visits from the kids and grandkids on many occasions.

Teddy and Gib also travelled in their retirement—a trip to London, Paris, Germany and Italy, a Mediterranean cruise and later a 50th Anniversary cruise to the Mexican Pacific Coast. Teddy and Gib were married for 66 years.

Teddy is preceded in death by her husband George Gilbert (Gib) Tubb, her parents, and her sister Minette Morris.

Teddy is survived by daughter Marilyn and husband Dave Van Kleeck (grandsons Michael Van Kleeck and Brian Van Kleeck), daughter Sharon and husband Robert Armstrong (granddaughter Erin Armstrong and grandson Cory Armstrong), and son Fred Tubb, wife Diane Quick (granddaughter Jordan Apgar-Garcia and grandson Taylor Apgar) and former wife Sue Gebhardt (grandson Brian Tubb and granddaughter Rachel Tubb), as well as seven great-grandchildren.

After Gib’s passing in 2014, Teddy eventually moved to Wind Crest Senior Living Community in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, where she remained until her passing.

A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date at Fort Logan National Cemetery, where Teddy will be reunited with her husband Gib Tubb, a World War II Navy veteran and submariner. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite charity.
