Marilyn Velasquez

Marilyn Lee Velasquez passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones in Denver, Colorado on January 11th, 2023, at the age of 83 after complications from the flu. Marilyn was born on November 26th, 1939, in Fall City, Nebraska to parents Marvin E. and Ivadale A. Jones. She is survived by her loving husband, Dennis; daughter, Denise; sons, David and Matthew; grandchildren, Brittany, Nathalie, Indalesia, McAyla, Devin, Kaden, and Mason; and great grandchildren, Isabella, Brielle, Steele, Sterling, and Weston. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Ivadale; and her siblings, Caroline, Ronald, and Jeffrey.

Marilyn graduated from North High School in 1958, and met the light of her life, Dennis Velasquez shortly after. They met in Denver, Colorado near Lowry Air Force Base where Dennis was stationed. Dennis couldn't believe a girl so beautiful would be interested in a boy like him, but they started dating and were married on December 17th, 1959. They were happily married 63 years until her passing. Marilyn worked for 28 years at Warder Elementary as a teachers aide where she was able to use her love for children to help others. Marilyn was passionate about her family and loved spending all free time with them whether that was going to family breakfasts in the mountains, camping, or just staying home and playing games. Family was her life and she loved them fiercely. Marilyn had a huge heart and would do anything for anyone, especially her family. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed joking with the kids and making Tik Tok videos with her grandchildren. Marilyn loved the beauty of learning about different cultures and could often be found watching Bollywood or Asian movies with English subtitles. Marilyn was the Matriarch of our family and an unfillable void will remain at the center where she was.
