Martin Kane

September 9, 1928 — October 16, 2018

Martin Kane passed away on October 16, 2018 in Castle Pines, Colorado. Born on September 9, 1928 in Portland, ME, the oldest son of Barbara Kane and Martin Kane.

He lived in many places, but spent the latter part of his life in Lakewood, Colorado.

Martin worked for the United Stated Geological Survey for over 30 years until retiring in 1989. He obtained a PhD in Geophysics from St Louis University during his career. His job allowed him to travel the world and to work with the astronaut program in the 1960’s in preparation for the moon landings. He also was instrumental in the development of plate tectonics, which is instrumental in the forecasting of earthquakes and volcanic activity.

Martin was a Roman Catholic and was a member of the St Jude/Christ on the Mountain choir for over 40 years.

Martin is survived by wife Jacqueline Kane; sons Martin Steven, Michael Andrew, Philip Joseph, Mark Frederick and Christopher Louis; 16 grand children; 1 great-granddaughter; sister, Sally and brother, Robert.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Barbara, as well as his bothers Mark and John, and his sisters Barbara and Ann.

Relatives and friends are welcome at the Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Christ on the Mountain Catholic Church, 13922 W. Utah Ave, Lakewood, CO. A reception will be held at 11:30 AM at the church.
