Maria Phyllis Maestas entered into eternal life with her heavenly father on Friday, February 28, 2020. She was 86 years old and a beloved wife to Nick Maestas for 66 years.
Born in San Rafael, New Mexico on November 9, 1933, Phyllis moved to Durango, Colorado in 1950 where she met Nick; the love of her life. They wed on May 18, 1953 and moved to Aurora, Colorado in 1959 where she lived for the rest of her life.
Phyllis enjoyed life to the fullest. Her dimpled smile was radiant along with her infectious laugh.
She had a servant's heart and had a deep compassion for the well being of others. From her early days in Durango, she cared for patients as an LPN at Mercy Hospital. She spent the next several busy years raising a family of five children. She cooked, baked, sewed and did an endless amount of laundry! Big holiday dinners were the norm and she made sure family birthdays were extra special, with beautifully designed customized cakes.
Phyllis had a seemingly endless amount of energy. Her hobbies included: crafting, water aerobics, golfing, sewing and shopping! She enjoyed entertaining, especially treating friends to her delicious homemade Mexican dinners. She also hosted annual Christmas parties for friends and neighbors. She truly was the ""hostess with the mostest"".
As the children grew older, Phyllis worked at JCPenney's selling cosmetics and later spent a short time selling custom jewelry. Both jobs provided her the opportunity to demonstrate her excellent selling skills. She received several awards for her outstanding achievements.
After retirement, she put her energies into volunteering, heading up the Baking Angels and Martha's Ministry at St. Pius X Parish, where she remained an active church member since 1959.
Phyllis' greatest gift to her family and friends was her constant prayer and her unshakeable faith in God.
She is survived by her husband Nick, children: Becky (Burgess), Rose, Nick, Bev (Don Duran) and Teri (Brian Fink); grandchildren: Megan (Dan Henken), Brandon (Vanessa Burgess), Casey (Drew Fink), Ellie (Chris Benjamin) and Olivia Rose Fink; great-grandchildren: Owen Burgess, Autumn Burgess and Bailey Henken. Phyllis has left a part of herself within each of us and we will miss her very much.
