Robert "Bob" Schantz

August 8, 1944 — January 30, 2023

Robert Dean (Bob) Schantz, age 78, passed away on January 30, 2023, at Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge. He was a fourth generation Coloradan, and he was born in Ft. Morgan on August 8, 1944. Bob served honorably in the U.S. Navy and was a combat veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart. Bob earned a Master’s degree from Colorado State University and was employed at Arapahoe Community College and later at Red Rocks Community College where he was the director of Admissions and Records before he retired.

In 1991, Bob married Jo Ann (Thacker) Horst and the two lived in Golden. He is survived by his wife Jo, son Stacy and daughter Ashlee, along with two stepsons, Brandon and Damon Horst.

Bob enjoyed reading, movies and spending time with his wife and grandchildren.

Funeral services will take place at Ft. Logan National Cemetery on Thursday, February 9, at 11:30 a.m., Shelter B. Following the service, a celebration of life will be held at VFW Post 9644, 2680 W. Hampden Avenue, Sheridan, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Jefferson County Library Foundation at www.jeffclf.org .
