Roger Frank Orban, 87, loving husband and devoted father, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep, on September 1, 2021. Roger was preceded in death by his wife Vivian of 56 years, and his second wife Patsy of 8 years; his parents Walter and Harriet Orban, and his sister, Eleanore. He is survived by his six children: Roger Paul (Patti), Laura, Kathy (Steve Eller), Bob (Pam), Tom (Kathy), and Paul (Barb), and by his grandchildren: Kristin Orban; Brian Rodger, Michael and Lauran Vivian Eller; Brandy Suppi, Nicole, Robert Jr., Danielle and Richard Roger "Ricky" Orban; Paul Jr., Zara and Samuel Roger Frank Orban. He is also survived by his sister Lucille Preston, his sister-in-law, Mary Anne Greaney (Pat), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Roger was born and raised in Chicago and graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in engineering, where he also played football. He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force. He married Vivian and they raised their family in Oak Lawn, IL, as members of St. Linus Parish. Roger worked for Northern Illinois Gas Company for many years, before being recruited by a Gulf Oil subsidiary, which brought him and the family to Greenwood Village, CO, in 1980. He wrapped up his career consulting for the National Park Service on major projects in Yosemite National Park.
Roger loved his family, which he called his greatest achievement, and was very proud of all of them. He and Vivian were advocates for education and passed these values onto their children and grandchildren. He loved to spend time with his family and looked forward to being with them at sporting events and their annual road-trip football game. Family vacations on Lake Michigan and elsewhere were highlights of his summers. He enjoyed singing, from his years involved with St. Linus’ Way Off Broadway productions, to his choir group later in life. He was a mainstay at Sunday Mass, always praying for his family. Roger was generous and a man of faith, loved by his children, grandchildren, extended family and all who knew him. We will always love and miss him.
