Steve Auger

January 12, 1945 — April 25, 2021

Steve Summerhays Auger, 76, passed away peacefully April 25, 2021. He was born January 12, 1945 in Farragut, Idaho to Thomas C. and Bessie E. Summerhays Auger.

Steve’s father served in the US Navy and they were stationed in Hawaii and Oregon until settling in Napa Valley, CA.  He was a successful baseball player and was awarded a typewriter for the most outstanding business student at Napa High School.  He completed a two-year mission for the LDS church on the East Coast and graduated from Brigham Young University with an accounting degree.

After a remarkably successful blind date on August 12, 1967 with Linda McClellan, Steve spent the next year courting her long distance. At the end of the first date, he told Linda that he loved her in some small way. They were married on August 24, 1968.

Steve used his accounting skills to serve in the US Army. After his honorable service, he became an accomplished accountant and CPA in Northern California. In 1978, Steve and Linda moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming to raise their family in the wild West. He coached his children in soccer and was instrumental in developing that sport across the state.

In Denver, Steve continued his career by establishing his own business and teaching accounting classes at night. He served as an LDS Bishop and as a missionary with his wife in downtown Denver. He continued to enjoy family and help raise his grandchildren. Steve and Linda enjoyed many friendships and decided to remain in Denver permanently.

Steve and Linda loved road trips and visited all 50 states. He collected coins, stamps, hat pins, and John Wayne movies. He loved the Colorado Rockies and attended or listened to most games. He loved traditions, especially Christmas, and shared these with this family and friends.

His light shone brightest in the darkest places. His passion was rescuing the underdog.

Steve is survived by his children, Stephanie (John) Noble, Jonathan (Debbie) Auger, Paul (Lacey) Auger, Cameron (Kelly) Auger, and Christian (Valerie) Auger; 16 fabulous grandchildren, and his siblings, Rae (Jim) Stubs and Charles T. (Karma) Auger. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Lee Auger on November 5, 2017.
