Steven Holder

Steven R. Holder, 67, of Thornton passed away on August 13, 2021 at his home. Born on April 5, 1954, in Denver, Colorado, he was the son of Richard L. and Shirley (Skewes) Holder.

Steve’s father was a national park ranger, so he grew up in national parks—including Yellowstone--where he learned a love of the outdoors. He joined the Navy at the end of the Vietnam conflict and served aboard the U. S. S. Franklin D. Roosevelt, an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean. After his discharge, he attended Metropolitan State College in Denver, where he studied business and music.

Steve found his life’s passion when he began to drive large gravel trucks in Littleton. He worked as a long-haul truck driver for most of his adult life and believed that he had driven more than a million miles. He drove cross-country for Digby Trucking, then worked for McLane Company, Inc. hauling retail items for convenience stores. Most recently, he drove for Beco, Inc. in Commerce City, transporting the United States mail.

He enjoyed hunting both birds and big game, camping in the mountains, and playing his guitar. He was happiest when hanging out with friends and regaling them with his driving and hunting adventures. He will be remembered for his gregarious nature, keen wit, and generosity.

In addition to his mother, Shirley (Arvada), he is survived by his sister, Catherine Holder Spude and her husband, Robert Spude (Santa Fe, New Mexico); sister Carol Holder (Anchorage, Alaska); niece Kinsey Spude (Kenmore, Washington); uncle, Robert Holder (Austin, Texas), numerous cousins and countless friends. Burial with military honors will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 11:30am at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd. Denver, CO 80235.
