Abel Ramos, 65, of Brooklyn, NY, passed away on September 21, 2023, in Denver, CO. He was born June 14, 1958. Abel was a charismatically lovable guy who had a special talent for making people laugh. Abel’s life revolved around his beloved family, whom he showered with unwavering devotion. Whether it was school events, sports games, or life milestones, Abel was always there, cheering on his kids like a one-man cheerleading squad, spreading his love and pride like confetti.
While family was Abel’s top priority, he also had a heart for serving the community, doing so through his career with Boulder Police Department. He even took his dedication abroad, participating in UN missions to Kosovo and Bosnia. Abel’s career was nothing short of impressive, serving Boulder for 39 years and finding a true passion of supporting the underserved and unhoused; forming meaningful connections, building trust, spreading hope, and changing lives. Abel was serious about his position but was known for having the best sense of humor on the force. You never knew when you’d be caught in his mischievous web, but you couldn’t help but join in on the fun. The more intense the prank, the more Abel loved you; a trait he passed on to Zachary. Also known to always have an ear to listen, shoulder to cry on, or hug to give, Abel cherished his many friendships.
It was at work where love found Abel when he least expected it. Sharon, the love of his life, started as a friend turned confidant. Their bond was unbreakable, and in 2004, they sealed the deal with a wedding that united their families. Just when they thought their love story was complete, along came their son Zachary, Abel’s biggest source of pride and joy.
If Abel wasn’t with family or working, you could find him in his yard. Whether he was doing a new project, planting trees/flowers or chasing vermin away, he loved the place of Zen he created over the years. While the neighbors may not have been in on the competition, Abel made sure his yard was the best in the neighborhood.
Survived by his loving wife, Sharon Ramos, and his children Zachary Ramos, Cory (Elizabeth) Bonnell, Amybeth (Erik) Adler, and Ryan Bonnell, Abel’s legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Olivia and Van. He also leaves behind his sister Irma, brothers Ruben, Hector, Moses, and Carlos, many loved nieces and nephews and an army of friends. Abel was preceded in death by his father Carlos Ramos and mother Armida (Gomez) Ramos.
Now let’s celebrate Abel’s incredible life! Join us for a soul-stirring Celebration of Life on Thursday, October 19, from 2pm to 5pm at the Church Ranch Event Center, located at 10200 Wadsworth Blvd in Westminster, CO. Here, tears will be replaced by laughter, and memories will be shared with joy.
Abel was a force of joy, laughter, and love. His departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit will continue to dance among us and prank the heavens above, reminding us to find humor even in the darkest of times.
In lieu of flowers, let’s honor Abel’s memory with contributions to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (www.themmrf.org), Pierre Robin Sequence Association (www.pierrerobinsequence.org), or the Officer Ramos Memorial for Street Medicine through Trinity Lutheran Church (https://tinyurl.com/bdh7v96s). Let’s keep spreading the love and making a difference, just like Abel did.
