Agnes Salazar Hernandez

January 24, 1939 — January 25, 2021

Agnes, 82 years of age, also known as Tita to most people, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2021, at 8:30pm, at her current resident, Ralston Creek Neighborhood in Arvada and was surrounded by her family.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Jose and Josefa (Martinez) Salazar; brother Lee Salazar; brother John Salazar; sister Genevieve Madsen and her husband Raymond B. Hernandez.

She is survived by her children; son Ray (Tami), daughter Julie (Dean), daughter Roni (Daniel). Her 10 grandchildren; Nickolas, Bo (Trisha), Venessa (Pat), Jamie (Jonathan), Zach (Fiancé Elyse), Matthew, Raelynn, Nicole, Chris and Tracy.  Her 8 great-grandchildren; Logan, Lance, Owen, Jackson, Westin, Evelyn, Carter and Olivia. She is also survived by her brothers Arthur Salazar and Ricardo Salazar.

Tita was born on January 24, 1939 to Jose and Josefa (Martinez) Salazar, in Cebolla, New Mexico. She was the 3rd of 6 children. Due to an illness at a young age, her mother and father picked up the family and moved to Denver, Colorado to be closer to better doctors. She attended Annunciation Catholic School in Denver. After graduation, she and her best friend Dolly took a vacation to Oakland, California. During their vacation, they traveled to San Francisco to attend a dance, where she met the very shy Raymond B. Hernandez, who was stationed in the Navy. After a short romance, they married in June, 1959, raised three children and were married for 55 years. When she retired she took care of a lot of the grandchildren and spoiled them with anything they asked for. She would teach them how to play cards, such as gin rummy and poker. She also introduced them to scary movies at a young age, which most of them still love doing today.

Tita was a hard worker, starting work at the age of 12 years old (she would lie about her age, saying she was older). She continued with her dedicated work ethic as an Instrument Tech in several hospitals during her career. One of many of her passions was listening to Mexican music and dancing with her husband Raymond; and what great dance partners they were, they could really heat up the floor. Another passion of hers was shopping and buying clearance items. If something was on clearance and was a steal, no matter what it was and if she needed it or not, she’d buy it. However, aside from music, dancing and shopping, her true passion was gambling at the casinos; the “hill”, is what she called Black Hawk, CO. She loved to travel to New Mexico with her brother Lee and sister-in-law Pat Salazar to the San Juan Pueblo area, a little village of Chamita, where a lot of the Salazar family has lived for generations. They would stay at the Ohkay Owingeh Casino. No matter if she gambled in New Mexico or Blackhawk, she would gamble for hours and either lose big or win big.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the mortuary is allowing only a certain amount of attendees to the service. We will contact you directly with the information to attend her services.

Please understand that if you do not receive a direct invite from Julia or Veronica, please do not attend the service. Tita understands that not all of her loved ones may be able to say goodbye, but she knows that you loved her and will miss her, thank you.
