Agnes Sayers

Agnes Bourque Sayers died peacefully on April 30, 2021,  at her home in Greenwood Village, Colorado.  She was 93.

Agnes was born October 9, 1927 in Holyoke, Massachusetts.  She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Framingham State Teachers College and a Master’s Degree in Education from Boston University.  She taught elementary school in Springfield, Massachusetts where she met and married Jack Sayers.

The couple lived briefly in Randallstown, Maryland before settling in Greenwood Village, Colorado with their five young children in 1968.

Agnes soon returned to teaching and earned the Colorado Teacher’s “Distinguished Teacher Award” in the award’s inaugural year in the Cherry Creek School District. She taught kindergarten and music at Belleview Elementary School until her retirement in 1993.

Agnes most enjoyed spending time at the beach, at her cottage in Popponesset Beach, MA.  She loved all crafting, especially quilting, sewing, cross stitch, and painting.  She enjoyed gardening, creating beautiful gardens at home and at the cottage.  In her later years she added exercising with her friends from church and attending book club to her many activities. But most of all, she delighted in spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons, Michael (Stephane), John (Susan), Timothy (Laura), and Patrick (Nancy).  Agnes has eight grandchildren, John, Daniel, Nicole (Daniel) Casey, Lauren, Maggie, Grace, Feliciana, and Nash.  A great grandchild, Ronan Casey, is due any day now.  She is also survived by a beloved cousin, Helen O'Donnell, and nieces Joanne Kennedy, Kathy Kwarcinski, and Eileen Kennedy.

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, John J (Jack) Sayers, her daughter, Susan Marie Sayers, her parents, Amedee Bourque and Agnes (Rohan) Bourque, and her brother, Rev. John R. (Fr. John) Bourque.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 6, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Horan & McConaty chapel,1091 S Colorado Blvd, Denver, followed at 7:30 p.m. by a Rosary.  The funeral Mass will be Friday, May 7, at Risen Christ Catholic Parish, 3060 S. Monaco Pkwy, Denver, at 10 a.m., followed by interment at Olinger Hampden Gardens Cemetery.  The family welcomes everyone to a reception at her home, at 1 p.m. on Friday.
