Agnes Shircel, 94, of Denver, Colorado, passed away peacefully early in the morning of July 29, 2023. She was born January 26, 1929, to Anton Shircel and Mary Shircel (Valencic) in Sheboygan, Wisconsin both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her six children Katie (Dan) Sickles; Sandra Schuster; Jeff (Lisa) Schuster; Susan Schuster; Julie (Johnnie) Crocco, Gail Schuster, 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Agnes was the youngest of 12, which made her strong and determined in most everything she did. Her siblings were Anton, Joseph, Father Cyril, Frank, John, Carl, Cy, Methodius, Edward, Sister Mary Blanch, and Angeline Dekanich, all who preceded her in death.
Agnes was raised in Sheboygan, Wisconsin where there is a street named “Shircel” commemorating her family’s history there. She went on to pursue her nursing profession by attending St. Mary’s School of Nursing and graduated in 1950.
After graduation she moved to Denver, Colorado and worked as a Registered Nurse at the University of Colorado Medical Center and Colorado General Hospital. Her nursing career expanded over nearly 10 years. She was married to the late Raymond Schuster in 1958 and later divorced in 1976.
She had a passion for outdoor activities, particularly hiking and skiing, which made Colorado an ideal place for her. The beautiful blue skies and sunshine were a great source of joy for her. She lived in the northeast for a short period of time and various Colorado cities until she landed in Cedaredge, Colorado, the town where she did the majority of raising her children and taking care of grandchildren. She was skilled at making cut-out cakes for birthdays and made everyone she touched feel special.
In Cedaredge she had a very large garden and fed her family year-round as she canned, dried, and froze the abundant fruits and vegetables. She was the first “health nut” before it was cool to be a health nut and ahead of her time. She studied and was mentored by health gurus and was a Natural Healer using vitamins, herbs, foods, and homeopathy.
She moved back to Denver in 1995 where she was very active with her peers playing pickleball and tennis and continued to ski and hike. She had a garden and continued to cook healthy meals for her family and friends. She was a master at playing Scrabble and enjoyed card games and reading.
In 2017 she moved to Five Star Residences of Dayton Place (formerly Morning Star Senior Living) where she recently passed away. She was seen everyday walking around the neighborhood as she loved being active. She had fun playing bingo and going to Music night especially because they served beer.
She had a life well lived but will be dearly missed by all of those that knew her.
