Alan Lewis Foster passed away August 3, 2017 at the age of 86. Alan was born to Lewis and Margaret (Bagwell) Foster in Indianapolis, IN and grew up in Mt. Carmel IL, and at several army bases (Fort Oglethorpe and near Fort Wayne) where his father was stationed. Alan was graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1949 and received a BA in History from the University of Detroit in 1953. He served as editor of the year book at both. He was a member or the Delta Pi Kappa fraternity (journalism). He was a member of the Air Force ROTC during college, went to camp in Cheyenne and then decided to go for active duty after he graduated. Alan served in the Air Force at Fort Lackland AFB in Texas and Cheyenne AFB in Wyoming, making 1st Lieutenant after his first year. After his service, Alan worked several different positions in Detroit before moving to Washington DC. He worked for a subsidiary of IBM, providing computers to government agencies. Ultimately, he moved to Denver, CO in 1970 where he worked for the Denver Regional Council of Governments for its board of directors. Alan especially enjoyed his time in Washington, DC, telling stories of being in the crowd at John F. Kennedyâs inauguration. Alan was a member of Risen Christ Catholic Parish in Denver, CO. Alan was preceded by his parents and his loving sister, Rita Ann (Foster) Wood. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Arthur Wood (Portland, ME) and nieces and nephews and their families: Cindy McLellan (Portland, ME), Karen Knights (Portland, ME), David Wood (Sandpoint, ID), Martha Sjogren (St. Ignace, MI), and Amy Wood (Charleston, WV). Alan passed away at Holly Heights Care Center in Denver. In his final days, he was comforted by special family friend, Jan Sjogren of Denver. Memorial mass at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church on Friday, August 18th at 10:00 AM. Interment following at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 1:15 PM.
