Alan Paul Granruth Sr, age 81, passed away quietly at his home in Lakewood on Nov. 4, after a lengthy bout with Parkinsons Disease. Survived by his wife Barbara and son Alan Jr. and his wife Tari; Sister Jeanne Williams of Orlando, FL; sister in law Agnes Atwood; Grandsons Ryan and his wife Megan & Nicholas and his wife Nicole; Great-Grandchildren Haley, Hannah, Colton & Ainsley; Nephews Walter Granruth III, Jay Leonard, Jack Hisley, Phil Hisley, Ken Hisley, Richard Atwood and nieces Ellen Mendez-Penate and Kathy Atwood. Alan was preceded in death by parents Walter Granruth, Sr. & Edith Granruth; brothers Walter Granruth, Jr., John Hisley, Calvin Hisley and nephew Steve Hisley. Born and raised in Baltimore MD, Alan entered the Army in 1953 and was trained as a Medical Lab Technician. After being discharged from the Army, Alan graduated from Loyola College MD. and soon thereafter began his career with the Department of Interior in Washington DC. He was transferred to San Francisco, CA in 1960 where he fell-in-love with the West and was thrilled to be transferred to Denver, CO in 1967 where he would remain and raise his family. He retired from the Government after 30 years of service. Always a history buff he became interested in old mining towns, especially Central City, CO where he became a member of the Gilpin County Historical Society; authored 2 books about Central City and with his love for traditional jazz he organized and produced the well known Central City Jazz Festival from 1977-1992. Intrigued by the ""workings"" of a Credit Union he joined the Credit Union of Denver and soon became a member of the Volunteer Board of Directors. He also served as Chairman for several years. Due to his failing health he retired after 28 years service. A Memorial Service will be held in his honor on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 12:00PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area 'A'.
