Alan ""Al"" Roger Neitzke

July 21, 1939 — May 5, 2016

Alan ""Al"" Neitzke, 76, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2016 in Denver, CO following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Al was born July 21, 1939 in Carroll, IA to Walter and Freda Neitzke. He attended Auburn High School and married his high school sweetheart, Deanna ""Dee"" Neitzke on May 1, 1959. Al and Dee began their journey together in Des Moines and Ankeny, IA and eventually relocated to New Hampton, IA where they spent 40 happy and productive years including the ownership and management of New Hampton's South Gate Inn and Super 8 Motel. In 2009 they began their transition to retirement in Colorado where they could enjoy a beautiful climate and continue to pursue their interests. Al embraced his family, friends and community. He had a passion for cooking and shared his beautiful meals with so many. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing with family and friends. Al and Dee had a strong and vibrant marriage of 57 years and together they enjoyed travel, sports and music. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran church in New Hampton and more recently joined Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Aurora, CO. Al will be remembered for his gentle wisdom, quick sense of humor and huge heart. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dee Neitzke, mother, Freda Neitzke, his father, Walter Neitzke and his brother Dean Neitzke. He is survived by children Teri (Don) Abell and Brad (Amy) Neitzke; grandchildren Seth (Allie), Kyle and Trevor Neitzke, Timothy and Lauren Abell; and brother Neil Neitzke. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 14 at 2:00 PM at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 11500 E. Iliff Avenue, Aurora CO. A reception hosted by the family will be held immediately after the service at Challengers, 12161 East Iliff Ave., Aurora CO 80014.
