Albert Mares Jr. was born April 29, 1930 to Albert and Emma Mares of Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by siblings Dave, Paul, Eloy, Loretta, and Rita. He is survived by brothers Rick, Joe, and Jerry and many nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by Vi, his beloved wife and companion of 60 years. Al and Vi met after his service in the Army. He often talked about how proud he was to have served his country and how much he had enjoyed his time in Italy. Al and Vi owned several restaurants in Denver. Because of his participation in sports, his businesses, and outgoing personality Al was very well-known throughout Denver. They loved sports of all kinds, but they especially loved their Denver Broncos! Al was honored by the Broncos with the presentation of a game ball two years ago because he was the largest individual ticket holder in Bronco history with 225 tickets. He is survived by daughter Billie (Mark), and son David of Denver. Al was very proud of his three grandchildren: Andrea Haney (Bill), Jon Helwick (Carly), and Nikki Russell (Norman). Al was also very blessed to know and love his great-grandchildren, Ian, Cael, Marin, Brody, Beau, Rhett, and Frances. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 8 at 11:00 am at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 2190 S. Sheridan Blvd followed a Committal Ceremony at Ft. Logan Natâl Cemetery at 1:00 pm. The family would like you to join them for a reception at the Verle Huffman VFW Post (2680 W Hampden Avenue, Englewood 80110) from 1:30 to 4:30.
