Albert P. Nawyn

December 29, 1948 — February 27, 2012

Albert P. Nawyn, known as Al or ""Big Al"" to his friends and family, left this world on February 27, 2012. He was born in Colorado on December 29, 1948, where he grew up, worked and lived his life. As a young man, he had a job in a book store and a position on the railroad. In 1970, he began his career in home improvements. In 1978, he began a startup company, Federal Building Improvements. The company's sales territory expanded from Colorado into Wyoming and Nebraska as the years moved forward. He employed 55-65 employees, sales representatives and sub-contractors between 1978-1994. Looking for a change, he went through a period where he pursued other interests. In 1998, he opened Signal Home Improvements. I believe Al enjoyed meeting with people from various walks of life and hearing their stories; and that, for him, was the best part of his sales career. Some of his accomplishments include: 1984 - Man of the Year Denver-Metro Chapter NARI; 1987 - Business Man of the Year, Colorado Special Olympics; and at this time he received a Colorado State Senate Tribute for a decade financial contributions and fundraising for the Colorado Special Olympics. 1982-2010 - Served as a board member for various charity organizations, including Colorado Boys Ranch, Colorado Special Olympics, Denver Boys and Girls Club, and St. Vincent de Paul. Al enjoyed the theater, travel, bantering with his friends, nephews and nieces. He loved animals; but most of all his dogs. His infectious laugh, smile and soft heart will be missed by all of those who cared for and respected him. Al's family and friends would like to thank all of the doctors and staff at Swedish Medical Center, for their care and kindness. We would also like to thank Dr. Michaletz-Onody and her staff, for years of friendship and care. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 11:00am at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 East County Line Road (one block west of South Holly Street), in Centennial, Colorado. Please share your memories of Al and condolences with his family by signing the guestbook.
