Alexander Emil Harrod

June 24, 2000 - May 28, 2021

He was born at home “en caul” surrounded by his six older siblings and both parents. It could have been in some small town or ancient time, but it was the year 2000, in Miami, Florida.  As an infant, he struggled with a deformity in his mouth making it hard for him to eat and later speak, which he overcame with the help of his family. A docile, sweet baby, he would very seldom cry or complain, though he snored like an old man from the beginning. A small hole in his heart was detected at around age two, his energy levels increased dramatically the day it was fixed and suddenly, he was no longer so docile! Never one to shy away from a good time, his creativity and energy burst before our eyes.

Blonde curly hair bobbing, his big smile and joyful laugh were a common sight in Kendall Lakes where Alex grew up. Alex took on the world running. A lover of the outdoors, he would eagerly chase a ball (his first word) or try to catch up with siblings; ”The Herd” of Harrods. Alex experienced snow for the first time as a 9-year-old, when the South Florida boy moved to Colorado over the winter holidays.

Alex and two older siblings, Chryztii and Katy, spent two years living in Hawaii, with older sister Stephanie. He (unsuccessfully) begged his sister to let him buy the lobster at the grocery store and take it home as a pet, he named it Thorny Devil. He was empathetic and loved animals. Uncommonly intelligent, he enjoyed creative outlets where he could put his inventive ideas to work. He found treasure in unloved things, recycling “junk” into new contraptions.

Alex was a generous and loyal friend, often putting the needs of others ahead of his own. Laid back and artistic, he enjoyed drawing, making music, or watching his friends. Even as an aspiring cynic himself, he was eager to crack a joke or pull off a trick to earn a smile in someone else, bringing light to the darkest places. He may not have understood how dearly beloved he was and how much he will be missed. Alex closed his kind, creative eyes for the last time when he passed away on May 28th, 2021.

A Memorial Service to honor Alex's life will be held on Saturday, June 5th, 2021 at Horan and McConaty, 11150 East Dartmouth Avenue Aurora, Colorado at 2pm.
