Alexander O’Neil Schnaidt, a prominent member of the Metro Denver basketball community passed away September 4th, 2023, at the age of 38.
Alex was born January 8, 1985, in Denver and grew up in Centennial, Colorado. He was the sweetest kid, with an amazing imagination. He knew how to find common ground with anyone. As a coach or friend, he could bluntly tell you how it was in an agreeable way, a gift most people would love to have. Alex will be missed by many on all levels, but most of all as a person and a friend.
A multi-sport athlete (basketball and soccer) at Grandview High School, sports were his passion. Alex used that passion to become a youth, high school and post-secondary basketball coach, connecting with people of all ages. He was a sought-after high school coach with stints as the assistant head coach at Grandview, Smoky Hill, Regis, and Cherry Creek high schools. He was looking forward to coaching at Kent Denver High School this year and continuing his youth coaching career as the Director of Pro Skills Basketball Denver.
Alex is survived by his parents Don and Maureen (Tween) Schnaidt, sister Jana Reussow (Rich), brother Patrick (Sarah) and his beloved niece, Elly Reussow. He was preceded in death by his infant sister Margery, his grandparents, and his Auntie Penny.
Services were held Friday, September 22, 2023, 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church in Foxfield, CO.
A youth basketball scholarship foundation has been created in Alex’s honor. Please consider a donation to the Alex Schnaidt Youth Basketball Foundation at AlexYouthBasketball.org. Our hope is to carry on his legacy in youth sports.
