Alexander Silva

July 24, 1924 — July 8, 2008

Alex Silva, 83, passed away July 8, 2008, in Aurora, Colorado. He was born July 24, 1924, in Trinidad, Colorado, to Fernando and Phoebe Kreeger Silva. Alex was one of twelve siblings born in Trinidad. He served in the Army from 1944 through 1946. Alex was in Guam on the way to Japan. After his tour in the Pacific he enrolled at Trinidad Junior College and graduated with an Associate Degree. He met Genevieve Chavez while in college. They were married shortly there after and moved to the Denver area where they made their home. Alex grew with his children and his children grew with him. It was a wonderful time for all. He followed in the footsteps of Saint Joseph, husband, father and carpenter. In 1985 Alex married Clorinda Mendoza a long time family friend and also a widower. He was blessed with the love of a second family. He was very athletic through out his life. Alex played on a three time championship softball team and two time championship volley ball team. He was a swimmer and a cyclist. Alex ran 5k's almost every weekend for 20 years. He was especially proud of placing in the top 10 in the Bolder Boulder race in 1993. He loved the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies. Alex also found time to volunteer for the Red Cross. Jack Kerouac is quoted as saying, ""I hope it is true that a man can pass and yet not only Live in others, but give them Life, and not only Life, but that great Consciousness of Life."" Alex is the perfect example of one who gives us Life. Dad will live in each of us children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We believe that hope is eternal and we are confident, that we can continue to bring him to our lives each time we remember him as he lived and therefore celebrate his life. Alex is survived by his wife, Clorinda Silva; four sons, Mike (Susie) Silva, Ron (Teddi) Silva, Gene Silva and Jerry (Anna) Silva; two step-children, Betty White and Tom Mendoza; 16 Grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Delores Fromang, Sylvia Belt and Katherine Davies. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Genevieve in 1980; and by 8 siblings and a granddaughter, Jade.
