Alexandra Ciortan Anderson was born August 31, 1932 in Qu’Appelle Saskatchewan to Alex Ciortan and Jona Pastelnici. Alexandra was the youngest of 11 children, she had one brother John, and 9 sisters, Ann, Mary, Hellen, Sue, Eve, Ruth, Irene, Eleanor, and Florence.
She married Klaus Anderson and together they had two children, Greta Anderson, and Charles Anderson.
She graduated from high school, and then attended Secretarial Trade School. She was a secretary until marriage in 1955, then a housewife, mother, and homemaker until around 1975 when she went back into the workforce and found a job as an administrative assistant for Townsend and Associates Law firm in Downtown Austin. After moving back to Denver in 1978 she began employment with the United States Geological Survey Water Resources Division at the Federal Center in 1980. She was assigned to the Yucca Mountain Project. Alexandra retired from the USGS in May of 2006.
In 1976, Alexandra earned her US Citizenship in Austin, Texas during her employment with Townsend and Associates. During her 26-year tenure with the USGS, she received many monetary awards and promotions for achievements. Each award represented another addition to her beautiful home furnishings or an improvement to the house or patio. She was also a member of USGS Retirees.
Alexandra loved all things pretty. She was creative, resourceful, stylish, elegant, joyful, optimistic, and would always greet you with a warm and friendly smile. She loved entertaining, cooking, sewing, reading, tending her flowers, working on crossword puzzles and making her home beautiful. In 2010 Alexandra suffered a stroke that left her disabled on her right side. Alexandra was a remarkable woman with incredible strength and courage to endure the many challenges and hardships in the years after her stroke.
Alexandra was a longtime supporter of the Denver Dumb Friends League and the Disabled American Veterans. Any donations in her behalf are sincerely appreciated.
A shelter service for Alexandra will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 10:15 a.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery. For those who would like to attend the service, please meet at Staging Area C no later than 10:00 a.m.
