Alfonse passed away on April 5, 2009 in Centennial, Colorado at Porter Hospice at the Johnson Center. He was born August 9, 1922 in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania, one of four brothers and three sisters born to Antonio and Elizabeth Mattucci, both Italian immigrants. Alfonse grew up in Berwick, Pennsylvania, graduating from Berwick High School. Immediately upon graduation, he joined the CCC helping to build roads in the mountains of Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942 and served honorably as an anti-artillery gunner in the Pacific until his discharge in 1944. In June 1945, he married Jean Harriet Corneli and had two sons Robert and William. After marrying, they moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where Al worked and retired from the US Postal Service. After retirement, he kept himself busy with his hobbies, fishing, swimming, reading and most importantly his children, beloved grandchildren, Gina, Julian, Jessica, Jacqueline and Alex and his great grandchildren, Vince, Max, Ashlyn and Brady. He was a warm and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed by all for his humor and love. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 12, 2009 from 4-6 PM with a Rosary following at 6 PM both at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 East County Line Road (just one block to the west of Holly Street), in Centennial, Colorado. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 13, 2009 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 3549 Navajo Street, in Denver, Colorado. Interment with military honors will be at Twin Valley Memorial Park in Delmont, Pennsylvania.
