Al Brehmer of Arvada, Colorado, born December 30, 1914 to Emil and Tena Brehmer on their farm outside of Atlantic, Iowa. Al quietly passed away March 24, 2004 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Denver, Colorado. In his early years he farmed in Iowa, but due to his arthritis, he was forced to move into Atlantic, where he briefly studied bookkeeping. There he worked for Cappels Hardware Store while he started his career in accounting. Again, because of arthritis, he had to move, leaving humid Iowa for the dry climate of Denver. Shortly after that his sense of adventure took him to South America, where he analyzed the profitability of gold and diamond mining for an investor. While in British Guinea (Guyana), he met and married Joan Adamson in 1952 after a whirlwind courtship. Returning to Denver, they began a family and Al set up his accounting practice that he ran successfully until he was 88 years old. All of his client relationships blossomed into friendships. In addition to accounting, he loved to travel to Alaska to photograph its grandeur and enjoy the thrill of catching 100 pound halibuts. He shared his catch with all of his friends upon his return to Denver. He was famous for his raspberries, grown in his yard, that he also shared with his many friends. Al is survived by his wife, Joan and his daughter, Linda (Tom) Kaufmann. He is the grandfather of Kristina, Coco, Melissa, Chase & Jordan Kaufmann; and the uncle of many nieces and nephews. Memorial service, Tuesday, April 13, 2:00 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 E. Alameda Avenue, Denver. The committal will take place April 24th, 11:00 a.m. in Atlantic, Iowa.
