Alfred Lee Griebling

Colonel (Retired) Alfred Lee Griebling of Denver, CO passed away October 14, 2017. He was born March 4, 1928 and graduated from St. Francis de Sales School in 1945 and from West Point in 1950. His first assignment was with the Third Engineers, 24th Infantry Division in the Korean War. Al commanded several engineer units, served two tours in Vietnam, and served on Army and Joint Staffs. Following retirement from the Army in 1974, he was Executive VP of the Delaware River Port Authority for 16 years before returning home to Colorado. After returning from Korea, he married Bette Marriott of Denver, and during their 24 years of Army life they lived in 23 different homes, and increased the size of their family with four children. Al is preceded in death by his wonderful wife of 61 years, Bette. He is survived by two sons, Richard of Golden, Colorado, and John of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and two daughters, Adele Stalder of Centennial, Colorado, and Elizabeth Petersen of Boulder, Colorado. They and their respective spouses, Judy, Nancy, Jeff, and Pete, have expanded the family with nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Al and Bette considered their loving, thoughtful family their greatest achievement. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 4:00 PM; Visitation will follow until 6:00 PM on Sunday, October 29, 2017, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 East County Line Road, Centennial, CO 80122. A Viewing will be held at 1-:00 and Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 30, 2017, Thomas More Catholic Church, 8035 South Quebec Street, Englewood, CO 80112, followed by a reception at Horan & McConaty County Line Road Reception Center. Interment will be at 2:30 PM, Fort Logan National Cemetery, military honors rendered by the US Army.
