Alfred B Pacheco

July 11, 1952 — December 28, 2009

Alfred B. Pacheco, 57, of Denver Preceded in death by his mother Rose Pacheco. Beloved husband of Lois. Father of Gabriel (Kristine), Danny (Angela) and Puppy Molly. Grandfather of DJ and Shayna. Son of Fred Pacheco. Son-in-law of Arthur and Corrine Fransua. Brother of Eloise Gallizzi (Pat), Barbara Codding (Danny), Valerie Montoya (Richard) and Lydia Jaramillo (Tracy). Numerous neices and nephews. Dearest friend to Arnold and Loretta Salazar. Al is also survived by many friends and loved ones and all will miss him greatly. Alfred was born in Denver, Colorado to Fred and Rose Pacheco. He grew up in Commerce City with his four sisters. Alfred graduated from Adam City High School. He married Lois Fransua of Denver in 1972. He joined the United States Navy in 1974. His son Gabriel was born in 1974 and his son Danny in 1978. Alfred remained in the Navy Reserves and was deployed in active duty for both Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield. Al worked as a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service for 36 years and remained in the United States Navy Reserves serving a total of 30 years before retiring in 2004. Alfred and Lois kept residence in Denver and raised their two sons. Alfred remained close to his parents Fred and Rose and spent hours on the phone each night talking with his mother and father. He was also known to make appearances at a siblings house, ""Hi sis"" was never an unexpected salutation. Al was also a wonderful uncle, always with time to listen or an afternoon to spend. Coach Al could be found on the baseball field with the CYRA Little League teaching Danny and the boys to throw hard, run fast and swing for the fences! He was also an avid softball player and could often be found around town turning a single into a double or triple as he flew around the bases. Al and Lois became proud and devoted grandparents to DJ in 1995 and to Shayna in 1999. Al clearly found his niche as World's Best Grandpa over the next 14 years. He tirelessly attended each and every baseball game, skating event, and school function. Al showed never ending patience and boundless energy for his Grandchildren, and many knew him and will remember him as ""Grandpa Jake."" Al was also known as a Denver sports fanatic! From high school wrestling to professional sports he was a devoted fan. He and his family never missing a Colorado State Wrestling Championship in over 30 plus years! If you needed tickets to the match, you would call Alfred because he was always first in line. When not in uniform, Al would be found in Bronco orange, Rockies purple, Nugget's powder blue, or Avalanche red and blue. The pinnacle of Al's Bronco mania took place on January 25th, 1998 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego where they attended Super Bowl XXXII. He cheered his Broncos onto victory as they won a heart stopper over the Green Bay Packers, and he celebrated the moment they were crowned Super Bowl Champions. For Al and Lois this was the trip of a lifetime resulting in numerous stories guaranteed to make everyone laugh out loud. The only other garb Al would wear was the patriotic sort as he often sported United States Navy clothing or shirts with the American bald eagle. Al never wore the same hat two days in a row except for his Lakewood Tiger's hat. He had a collection of sports and military caps that stood on an overburdened hat tree in his room. Al could always be seen grinning from underneath the cap of the day. Al is remembered by his family for many things, but all recall him as the last one at the dinner table for all occasions. Savoring and picking away at large plates, Grandpa Jake could never be rushed from the table. One could clean and clear around him, but he would not be moved until seconds and thirds had been thoroughly enjoyed. Once Alfred did finish a meal, you could count on finding him outside enjoying a cigar, his Tijuana Smalls, and talking until the sun would set. Alfred's family invites you to share your thoughts and memories with us on this site. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Denver Dumb Friends League in Alfred's name. We love you and will miss you Al!
