Alice Caroline Engstrand, 91 years of age, of Greenwood Village, Colorado, went home to be with the Lord October 1, 2012. Left behind to cherish her memory are children, Mary Bender and husband, Gary of Englewood, CO, Mark Engstrand of Paxton, IL, grandchildren, Sarah and Lauren Bender, sister-in-laws, Norma Sandrock of Cottage Grove, MN and Ruth Motyka of Dawson, MN. Alice was born in Pierce, NE in 1921, attended Zion Lutheran Church and School and graduated from Pierce High School in 1938. After graduation, she worked in Pierce and Lincoln, NE then moved to Minneapolis where she worked for Lutheran Brotherhood. She made wonderful life-long friends in ""the cities"". Alice and Ray moved to Sioux City, IA in 1960 where she was involved in many family activities and charitable organizations and worked briefly at the Sioux City Library. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 40 years and volunteered there in many capacities. In later years, she chaired the library program at St. Luke's Hospital and enjoyed knitting baby caps and blankets for the Neonatal department. She moved to Denver to be near her family in 2005. She will be remembered in her later years for her delightful smiles and loving attitude - lighting up the lives of all that knew her. A private burial ceremony will be held at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church, 1122 Jackson Street, Sioux City, IA 51105.
