Alice D. Whittington

Alice Marie (Doyle) Whittington passed away August 12, 2011 at home in Denver surrounded by her family. Alice was born January 15, 1918 in Dalton, MA to Patrick and Katherine Doyle. She attended Dalton High School and Berkshire Business College before moving to Washington, D.C. in 1937 to begin a twenty-year career with the U.S. Forest Service. Alice was married to Charles Lunn Whittington on October 16, 1951 and the family moved to Ohio and Kentucky before settling in Denver in 1964. Alice guided tours as a volunteer at the Colorado State Capitol for many years, and delighted in sharing with visitors the history of Colorado. She loved to entertain, talk with friends, and travel the country with her family. In addition to her beloved husband, Alice was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen Brooks, Catherine Doyle, and William Doyle. She is survived by her son, Stephen, and his wife, Christine, of Winston-Salem, NC and her grandsons, Daniel of Denver, and Joseph of Winston-Salem. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday, August 15 at Horan and McConaty Funeral Home, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 16 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, followed by interment at Ft. Logan National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Social Ministry Office, Holy Ghost Church, 1900 California, Denver, CO 80202.
