Centennial

Allan Curtis “Buddy” Bloomquist, age 79, of Centennial, CO, passed away at home on Tuesday morning, September 1, 2020. Born on February 28, 1941 in St. Paul, MN, he was the eldest of four children born to the late Muriel Kyle Bloomquist and Allan Woodrow Bloomquist.  Growing up in St. Paul, MN, he was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1959. After high school, he entered the U.S. Air Force in St. Paul, MN and completed his boot camp at Lackland AFB, TX, in December 1961 where he became a small arms expert and earned his marksmanship ribbon.

Allan was a high achiever and was recruited to work in the Office of Strategic Intelligence, which had him stationed in many locations around the world including: Turkey, Chile, Easter Island, and Panama.  As part of his job he would use an encrypted teletype machine to issue reports directly to the Pentagon.  He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Curiously, he was stationed aboard a Navy vessel at sea for 11 months, as he carried out his missions.

Once Allan returned to the United States he was stationed at Fairchild AFB, WA, where he married Patricia in 1965.  A few years later, he was transferred to Lowry AFB, CO where he was an instructor. Allan was Honorably discharged in May of 1969. Using his military knowledge and electronics skills, Allan began to work at Bell Labs and AT&T, in Westminster, CO. He worked there for 33 years, earning several managerial awards and honors. In 2002, he and Patricia retired to The Pond in Arvada, CO where he was able to enjoy hours of fishing and playing with grandchildren in the local pool and parks. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus St. Joachim Council #5064 of St. Anne’s Shrine in Arvada, CO. It was his privilege to serve as a 4th Degree Knight.

He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Patricia Bloomquist of Centennial CO, four children: daughter René Ahl (spouse Stephen) of Thornton CO, daughter Jennifer Hellier (spouse Charles) of Centennial CO, son Charles Bloomquist (spouse Bune) of Campbell CA, daughter Melissa Sleeth (spouse Shad) of Highlands Ranch CO; three sisters: Fran Smeby (spouse Jim), Mary Williams (late spouse Irv), and Linda Bloomquist all of St. Paul, MN; and nine grandchildren: Christina Ahl, Nicholas Ahl, Hunter Ahl, Jack Hellier, Samuel Hellier, William Bloomquist, Robert Bloomquist, Hayden Sleeth, and Hudson Sleeth.
