Alonso Garza Jr., (Retired Captain, U.S. Air Force) age 72, of Parker, Colorado passed away on June 3, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. Alonso was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, the son of Alma (Villarreal) Peralez and Alonso Morin Garza on April 5, 1952. Alonso grew up in Corpus Christi and graduated from Presbyterian Pan American School in Kingsville, Texas.
Alonso enlisted into the U.S. Air Force in 1970. While serving on his first overseas assignment in Taiwan, he met and married Mei-Jong Lin “Lynn” in April 1972. During his assignment at Vandenberg AFB, Alonso also completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Technology at Chapman College, in Orange, California. He then completed US Air Force Officer Training School in San Antonio, Texas, earning his commission as 2nd Lieutenant in 1981. Alonso served a 21-year career in the US Air Force, ten of those years as a Computer Systems Engineer with Air Force Space Command. Alonso retired with an honorable discharge in June 1991 from Peterson AFB at the rank of Captain in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After his military career he owned and operated a pager and cellular phone sales and repair business. He also obtained his real estate license, earned his paralegal certification, and worked a short time as a mechanic at Toyota. He finally found his niche as an entrepreneur with a home-based online retail sales company he owned and operated for over 20 years until his final days.
Alonso was a true jack of all trades, with interests in martial arts, photography, ham radios, computer programming and cyber security. Alonso was a private and quiet family man who loved his family. He and Lynn spent 51 years together residing where the Air Force assigned him which included seven states; Riyadh, Saudia Arabia, and then Colorado Springs from 1987-2001. They had a short residence in Gilbert, Arizona before finally residing in Parker, Colorado for the last 20 years. He was a good, loving, loyal, witty and faithful son, husband, father, grandfather (lovingly called “Pa” and “Grandad”), brother and uncle. He raised his daughters to be independent, caring and adaptable. However, as a father to only daughters, his two sons-in-law were like the sons he never had. His family will always cherish the honest, caring and devoted family man he was who had us laughing even in his final days with his witty comments. He will be deeply missed.
The oldest of seven children, Alonso is survived by his mother, Alma V. Peralez; brother, Arturo (Chayo) Garza; and sisters: Alma (Absalon) Lyra, Anna (Ferman) Rivera, Alba Cervantes, Alfa (Simon) Soliz and a half-sister, Celia V. Peralez.
He is survived by his wife, their three daughters, their spouses and six grandchildren: Wife, Mei-Jong Lin of Parker, Colorado; daughters Teresa, her son Seth, and her husband Brian Taylor; Maria, her daughter Ella, her sons Eric and Ethan, and her husband Ken Swift, and Angela Garza, her daughters Piper and Valori and her wife Emily Brown all of Parker, Colorado.
Alonso was preceded in death by his grandfather “Papa Grande”, Filiberto Villarreal; his grandmother “Mama Grande”, Lorine May Dicken Villarreal; his father, Alonso Morin Garza and sister, Ada Hampton after her five-year battle with cancer.
Viewing services will be held at Horan & McConaty June 18th followed by a memorial service and reception. Burial will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
