ALOYSIUS V. BARR

âAlâ (also affectionately known as Uncle Wish) was born and raised in the Roxborough/Manayunk section of Philadelphia. He was born the 2nd son of Aloysius Francis and Winifred Catherine Barr. He attended 16 years of Catholic education (St. John the Baptist Grade School, Roman Catholic High School, and Villanova University). After graduating from Villanova in 1966, he was drafted into the Army. Al spent his military career in Korea and Vietnam, including being in Saigon during the Tet Offensive of 1968. His professional career was spent as an auditor/accountant for the U.S. Government, the U.S. Army Audit Agency, the Department of Labor, and the Department of the Interior. Al also had his own independent accounting and investment service.
Al had a passion for books as well as enjoying golf, hiking, and skiing; and sightseeing on road trips in his RV, Lazy Daze, with family and friends. His hobbies included listening to conservative radio programs, playing the lottery, and participating real estate and financial investments. As a dog lover, he âspoiledâ Daisy, Barney, Duke, and Zoey. He will be dearly missed by family and friends who enjoyed his quick wit, his sense of humor, and his generosity.
Al is survived by a brother, Gene, of Berlin, New Jersey; long-time companion Peggy Hammond of Wheat Ridge, Colorado; a niece, Victoria Thorn, and nephews Charles and Adam, numerous great nieces and nephews, Lakewood and Mesquite, Nevada neighbors, and many friends. Al is preceded in death by his parents and older brother Charles.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 South Wadsworth Blvd. in Lakewood, on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 11a.m. Interment will follow at 1p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area A, at 1 p.m.
